COURSE INTRODUCTION

This programme provides a practical overview of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems and their role in supporting the energy transition. Participants examine storage technologies, grid applications, system components, planning, performance, safety, project risk, standards and lifecycle considerations for more informed BESS decisions. Practical examples and guided discussion help participants connect the subject to decisions and challenges in their own workplace.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
- Explain the core concepts, terminology and working principles related to Utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Apply structured methods and industry good practices for Energy transition, grid flexibility and the role of energy storage, Classification and comparison of energy-storage technologies, and Grid-connected applications and electricity-market requirements.
- Evaluate relevant energy & sustainability situations and identify risks, gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Translate the learning into practical workplace actions and sound technical decisions.

COURSE OUTCOME

Upon completion, participants will be better prepared to:
- Assess relevant workplace situations using the concepts and methods covered in Utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Select and apply appropriate tools, checks or controls for Energy transition, grid flexibility and the role of energy storage, Classification and comparison of energy-storage technologies, and Grid-connected applications and electricity-market requirements.
- Recommend actions that support energy performance, regulatory readiness and practical sustainability action.
- Communicate findings, improvement opportunities and next steps clearly to relevant stakeholders.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

- Asset managers, operations & maintenance engineers, electrical engineers, aspiring energy storage technology enthusiasts.
- Organizations: Utility companies (generation, transmission, and distribution network owners, water utility companies, oil and gas industry companies), manufacturers, government bodies (i.e. Suruhanjaya Tenaga, DOSH, Bomba).
