EMERGENCY GENERATOR SET AND ITS MAINTENANCE

COURSE INTRODUCTION
This programme develops practical understanding of emergency generator-set construction, operation, maintenance and testing. Participants examine diesel engines, AC generators, batteries, charging systems, AVR, governors, starting systems, control requirements and preventive maintenance so they can support reliable standby-power performance. Practical examples and guided discussion help participants connect the subject to decisions and challenges in their own workplace.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
- Explain how the diesel engine, alternator and supporting systems produce emergency power.
- Identify the functions of generator, engine, starting and control-system components.
- Assess battery condition, charging arrangements and common starting-system faults.
- Explain how the AVR, governor and AMF panel maintain safe automatic operation.
- Plan daily, weekly, monthly and annual preventive-maintenance activities.
- Carry out operating checks and diagnose common generator-set performance problems.

- Starter motor, its function and the preventive maintenance to be carried out
- AMF board, its components and the automatic operation
- Importance of engine support system (cooling, lubrication, starting and etc.)
- Maintenance of diesel engine (daily, weekly, monthly and yearly)
