
PRESSURE VESSEL - DESIGN, INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE BASED ON API 510

COURSE INTRODUCTION
This three-day masterclass provides a practical, code-based understanding of pressure vessel design, inspection and maintenance. Participants work through API 510 requirements together with ASME Section VIII Division 1, API 572, API RP 571 and API RP 577. The programme uses worked examples and case studies to clarify code rules, inspection planning, corrosion calculations, repairs, alterations, rerating, damage mechanisms, welding and non-destructive examination for in-service pressure vessels.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
- Explain the purpose and application of API 510 and related ASME/API publications.
- Apply core ASME Section VIII Division 1 design requirements for shells, heads, joints, external pressure and nozzle reinforcement.
- Plan pressure vessel inspection, examination and pressure testing activities using API 510 and API 572.
- Calculate corrosion rate, remaining life and maximum allowable working pressure.
- Evaluate common pressure vessel damage mechanisms using API RP 571.
- Assess repair, alteration, rerating, welding and non-destructive examination requirements.
- Describe the API Individual Certification Program and the API 510 inspector certification process.

- ASME Section VIII Division 1: code scope, design requirements, shell and head thickness, joint efficiency, external pressure, nozzle reinforcement, heat treatment, welding, testing and documentation
- API 510: inspection, examination, pressure testing, inspection intervals, corrosion rate, remaining life, MAWP, fitness-for-service, repairs, alterations and rerating
- API 572: pressure vessel types, inspection planning, inspection methods, limitations, records and reporting
- API RP 571: common damage mechanisms affecting pressure vessels, including brittle fracture, fatigue, CUI, sulfidation, stress corrosion cracking, wet H2S damage and HTHA
- API RP 577: welding processes, procedures, materials, welder qualification, metallurgy and non-destructive examination
