COURSE INTRODUCTION
This programme develops practical awareness of hazardous materials, waste-management responsibilities and spill-prevention controls. Participants learn to recognise hazards, support safe handling and storage, understand response priorities and apply workplace controls that reduce environmental, safety and compliance risks. Practical examples and guided discussion help participants connect the subject to decisions and challenges in their own workplace.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
- Identify hazardous materials and scheduled wastes using labels, safety data sheets and regulatory classifications.
- Apply legal and workplace requirements for chemical handling, storage and waste documentation.
- Assess compatibility, containment and housekeeping conditions that influence spill risk.
- Select suitable personal protective equipment and spill-control materials.
- Use emergency waste cards and follow clear communication and escalation procedures.
- Respond to a spill systematically through isolation, containment, recovery, clean-up and reporting.
- Recommend waste-minimisation, recycling and disposal controls that reduce environmental risk.
