COURSE INTRODUCTION

Moving beyond basic air conditioning principles, this course immerses participants in the realities of tropical climate challenges and the stringent requirements of global standards like ASHRAE 169. Over the two days, attendees will systematically deconstruct cooling systems from the ground up, beginning with fundamental heat load calculations and dynamic simulation, progressing through advanced airside setups (including dedicated outdoor air systems and heat recovery), and culminating in a deep dive into waterside plant optimization. Through intensive case studies, participants will explore tailored solutions for a diverse range of sectors, from commercial hospitality and warehouses to critical environments such as healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical cleanrooms, and data centers, ensuring a holistic understanding of total system energy performance.

- Session 2: Heat-load principles and calculations using manual methods and dynamic simulation, including load profiling, material selection, window configuration, building orientation, and shadow analysis
- Session 3: Centralised airside-system design, including PAHU fresh-air treatment, heat recovery, DOAS, and AHU/FCU sensible cooling and dehumidification
- Session 4: Airside-system case studies for commercial buildings, hotels and hospitality facilities, and warehouse cooling applications
- Session 5: Critical-building airside case studies for healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical environments, and data centres
- Session 6: Centralised waterside-system fundamentals covering chillers, pumps, and cooling towers
- Session 7: Alternative waterside arrangements, including hot-water systems with heat pumps, condenser reheating, and solar hot-water integration
- Session 8: Chiller plant-room efficiency and Total System Energy (TSE), followed by summary, Q&A, and a knowledge-check quiz
