COMPRESSED AIR AND CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS THEORY AND PRACTICE WITH PRACTICAL INSIGHTS ON ENERGY OPTIMIZATION

12 - 13 OCTOBER 2026

16 CDP Approved by ST

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Compressed-air and centrifugal-pump systems are essential industrial utilities, but poor sizing, leakage, operating practices and maintenance can make them major sources of avoidable energy cost. This programme combines core operating theory with practical system measurements, performance analysis and troubleshooting. Participants learn to identify losses, improve reliability and prioritise energy-saving actions across both systems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
- Explain the operating principles and performance characteristics of compressed-air and centrifugal-pump systems.
- Measure system performance and identify major sources of pressure, flow and energy loss.
- Interpret compressor, pump and system curves to evaluate operating efficiency.
- Assess distribution sizing, leakage, pressure control and equipment-selection decisions.
- Diagnose common design, operation and maintenance problems using a structured approach.
- Prioritise practical optimisation actions that improve reliability and reduce energy cost.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This programme is suitable for senior Technical management, Facility Engineers, Site maintenance personnel.

COURSE CONTENT

- Session 1: Air-compressor fundamentals, including the main system elements and components, compressor maintenance, implementation of practical solutions, and a basic technical-information activity
- Session 2: Compressed-air distribution systems, covering good design principles, component sizing, identification of energy-saving opportunities, recognition of operating patterns and trends, and the use of technical insights for improvement
- Session 3: Measurement of compressed-air efficiency and losses, including on-site compressor-efficiency assessment, calculation of leakage-loss percentage, determination of corrective actions, compressor-control systems, and selection of the best system for the application
- Session 4: Centrifugal-pump fundamentals, including the principal elements and components of a pumping system, measurement of system efficiency, implementation of effective solutions, and a supporting technical-information activity
- Session 5: Pumping-distribution systems, covering good design, correct sizing of components, identification of energy-saving opportunities, review of operating patterns and trends, and application of technical insights to improve performance
- Session 6: Maintenance of pumping systems, including pump-component identification, understanding operational issues, selecting effective maintenance actions, and choosing a suitable system for the application
- Session 7: Practical visit to an air-compressor vendor for a close-up review of compressor components and overhaul practices
- Session 8: Practical visit to a centrifugal-pump vendor for a close-up review of pump components and overhaul practices
