A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO BALANCING WORKSHOP

27 - 28 JULY 2026

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Unbalance is a common source of excessive vibration, bearing stress and premature failure in rotating machinery. This practical workshop explains rotor-balancing principles, terminology and ISO 1940 balance-quality requirements before guiding participants through two-plane dynamic balancing. The combination of theory and hands-on practice helps participants recognise unbalance conditions, select appropriate tolerances and carry out balancing work with greater confidence.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
- Explain the causes and operational consequences of rotor unbalance.
- Use balancing terminology and measurements correctly.
- Determine suitable balance-quality requirements with reference to ISO 1940 rotor classifications.
- Distinguish between single-plane and two-plane balancing applications.
- Perform and evaluate a two-plane dynamic-balancing exercise.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This workshop is suitable for rotating-equipment and maintenance engineers, reliability personnel, vibration analysts, technicians and supervisors responsible for diagnosing vibration or balancing fans, motors, pumps, rotors and other rotating machinery.

COURSE CONTENT

- Fundamentals and common causes of rotating-machine unbalance
- Balancing terminology, measurements and correction principles
- Balance-quality grades and ISO 1940 rotor classifications
- Selection of balancing planes and correction weights
- Two-plane dynamic-balancing procedure
- Hands-on measurements, correction and result verification
